It does exactly what it says on the tin. Jazz vocalists have traditionally used their voices in the same way that instrumentalists approach the genre, with a readiness to improvise around the melody and rhythm of songs to produce unique performances. Early giants of the genre include Louie Armstrong and Bing Crosby, but vocal jazz remains popular to this day with artists such as Diana Krall carving out successful mainstream careers.
