Biography
THE SOULFOODSPIRIT is Fresh Funk, Deep Soul and Ultra-Grooves. Additional influences of Jazz, Pop and Latin are also used. The result: music for the feet & music for the soul.
The melody lines are thorough and guarantee a 100 % radio- and live-compatibility.
With their relaxed live performance the four easily can make their audience dance on each party. What does 'soulfoodspirit' refer to? The spirit might be clear enough and 'soulfood' stands for 'home-made', originally it meant the food of the Black in the states. That should do for starters. Mastermind of THE SOULFOODSPIRIT is guitar-player and singer Frank Blenz, who acquired his first experiences in music during longer visits to New York, Boston and San Francisco, where he performed on stage with several artists, among them Michael McDonald.
In the mid nineties he founded a band with 7 musicians, the original SOULFOODSPIRIT. Soon he learned that it''s not esay finding suitable musicians. Apart from sax-player J?rg Pisendel he parted with all the other members of the band. At the end of '97 THE SOULFOODSPIRIT was complete, a quartet with the rhythm section Espenhain/Tscholakov.
Espenhain/Tscholakov, both of them were more into rock music and rather occupied with their band SUPER SLINKY. On top they now support the excellent songs of THE SOULFOODSPIRIT with the appropriate groove.
In 1998 an extensive live-set came into being and all of it's songs where written by Frank Blenz. THE SOULFOODSPIRIT went on tour all around Germany (Hamburg, Nuernberg, Dortmund, ...), among others they played at the Honky Tonk as the only band not covering songs. The following year MO RHYTHM published the 8-track-EP 'Journey To The Soul'.
With J?rg Pisendel (Sax) leaving in 1999 THE SOULFOODSPIRIT remembered the roots of Soul and in 2000 they are on tour as a trio not only all around Germany and Austria, but also in Russia. Sometimes they are supported by Yellow Beats - DJ Georgi Tscholakow.
You can listen to - and naturely buy - the songs here at peoplesound.com, who liked THE SOULFOODSPIRIT that much to put the song ''Journey to the soul'' on their sampler for the Popkomm 2000. Goal is the party of the special kind. Only those guys having seen the Millenium-Tour of THE SOULFOOD SPIRIT can say: ''I?ve been there''.
