Biography
THE FLYING POSTMEN:
Andrei Nicula: vocals, bass
Emil Bojescu: vocals, guitar
Mircea Sturza: vocals, drums
Gabriel Andronic: vocals, guitar
Formed in Moldova, 1989, by Andrei Nicula along with Emil Bojescu and Mircea Sturza. Their popularity quickly grew as they played big venues in Chisinau City, including festivals such as Ave Beatles, Rock Independent and Rock Marathon. They attracted interest from TV, Radio stations with invitations from across the border in Bucharest, Romania.
The band’s songwriting influence hails from the 50’s and 60''s as they performed cover versions of American and British artists like Ray Charles, Gene Vincent, Chuck Berry, The Kinks, The Who, The Yardbirds, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones to name a few. This was their ''Hamburg school” which they embarked upon to become real professionals. In 1996, The Flying Postmen recorded their debut album, WELL, which features 10 original songs, the most outstanding being the newly composed title song Well along with the classic ballad Hello.
Activity expanded with 2 more successful visits to Bucharest, it was a prolific time for the Band, giving rise to new original songs including Thinking Of Love, Rocking Chair and Something You Can’t Do Without, all melodies which encapsulate what’s become the unique Flying Postmen sound.
In 1998, the band went toLiverpool to take part in the Mathew Street Festival 1998, where they played the Cavern Club on a residential basis for 6 months – the first band to do this since The Beatles!
