Biography
The Animals' reunion World Tour ran from June - December 1983 and was, predictably, racked by turmoil. Nonetheless it was a massive commercial success, selling out virtrually every gig, worldwide. The original 5-piece line-up were augmented onstage by additional guitars, keyboards and percussion, to fatten their sound and give them a more contemporaneous feel. However, despite these adjustments their old material was treated with due deference: their original arrangements were largely adhered to, and so these 80s versions of their 60s hits stand up as valid Live recordings. The album, GREATEST HITS, LIVE! (it was titled RIP IT TO SHREDS in the US) was issued in the Autumn of 1984, many months after the band had broken up (yet again!). Without promotion it sold rather less than its predecessor, ARK, although it nonetheless graced the lower rungs of the US charts.
