Shystie - Chanelle got her nickname, which means sweet but cheeky, at school - has been the subject of substantial hype, but with Diamond In The Dirt she's proved that it's all due. 'I'm controversial, says the MC who writes most of her lyrics on her Nokia phone and completed a sound engineering course before she was signed. 'All my tunes have something naughty or rude or in-your-face. Singing R&B is all about the nice life and getting it on with your boyfriend, but with MCing you can be more real. I don't want no album of sleeping tunes! Not that the Hackney girl has a problem with success. Far from it. 'I want all the success but I don't want to get it by talkin' about stupid stuff on some funky pop track. I want to sell loads of albums but I want to keep it street. It's the Nas approach to music, to match underground credibility with massive sales.
