Biography
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1955, now living in Middlesbrough, Cleveland, Paul Stokes has had classical and rock experience and now spends spare time composing and creating new works. Late teens and early 20s found him composing tunes with a friend, eventually joining a band, which led to concerts. At this time the punk era was ''about'' but the band remained rock- influenced, although borrowing some of the energy!
From the early 70s to the mid 80s, two albums were made with the band - called Giantkiller - in Pasadena, USA, and one in Pity- Me, County Durham. However, in 1995, a pivotal year, the call to music got strong. For three months he wrote songs and instrumental works, and then providentially his paths crossed with a record producer/publisher and they agreed on an instrumental album. Over the next four years the album was finished. Relishing the studio environment, he found that new technology suited the modern composer down to the ground, especially with a basic home studio.
''DETAILED'' MUSIC PAST
Musical training was in classical styles on the piano, but he quickly found that style restrictive and progressed, learning from musical styles heard during his youth - typically early pop, rock and roll.
His writing crosses over the divides of classical/rock and other genres, and that with only an Ensoniq TS12 and Yamaha MU 90R! Writing in various styles, rich textures and melodic themes excite, producing a ''film-like'' quality - people comment that they can see pictures whilst listening.
In November 2000 he completed a training course through SFIDA, in writing for film, TV and the Media. Musically and culturally speaking, living in the rarefied North the Internet and the Global Village concept seem to have broken the ice.
CURRENT WORK
Imagination - An instrumental album representing a journey, perhaps through space, containing work that reflects a growing area of great interest - the interaction between rock and classical with melodic themes. This is available now (details below),
