Biography
Micky Arnell
In 1984 I was in a band called Family Politics. We entered a Battle of the Bands competition run by one of our larger regional broadsheets ''The Northern Echo''. First prize was ?2,500 cash, 1 brand new Bedford van, a publishing deal with ''D.J.M. Records'' and a crate of ''Moet et Chandon''.
Things started to go wrong almost immediately afterwards. The band began to act like superstars even though we had never made a record never mind sold one. Then Elton John sued his old record company (D.J.M. Records) winning an ?11 million court settlement, this resulted in ?0 investment from D.J.M. Records for our band.
Mr. Scargil and the miners fought it out with Mrs. Thatcher and England had other things on it''s mind. The lads in the band fell out over ''the miners strike'' and I ended up with broken dreams, and a big van. My girlfriend became pregnant and I sold my ''Fender Strat.'' to pay for a fridge freezer, carpet and three piece suite.
I could never hold down a proper job and just kept on rocking playing in all sorts of bands just for the fun of it. then in 97 some body sent a demo into Glastonbury festival and I played ther three years runing. That was great and we got to play some great gigs of the back of playing at one of our countrys bigest Rock fests. .
