Biography
Damn Fine Records celebrates its very first record by releasing an album that has been described as 'the melodies of Bob Mould coupled with a dark sense of entertaining and intelligent humour'.
Twenty-five year old writer/exhibiting artist/singer-songwriter Michael Rattray became disillusioned with the complicated corporate music industry and decided to follow in the footsteps of his Scottish Delgado chum Emma Pollock. He has set up an independent label which prefers to focus on good music. His record 'Petticoat Government' is the result of new solo material and has Mr Rattray playing all instruments apart from drums.
Raging, melodic, touching and sometimes quite rude, the album is a mixed bag of eleven confidently exquisite tunes. Topics as diverse as supermodel insecurity, depression, brazen sexuality and hypocrisy in the priesthood are whipped up into a large knicker-bocker glory of pop with loud/quiet guitars, piano, melody and often tongue in cheek humour.
Michael was a member of Human Condition Records, 'The Jennifers' who released two singles and an album on the Scottish label. He then formed peoplesound favourites MYLAR before deciding to move on to this new solo project. Gigs will be happening in the new year with a single also to be released.
