Biography
WAYNE Anthony is hoping that you are going to take him more seriously this year.
Hardly surprisingly that you haven''t so far when he been poncing around in his seventies gear as part of the disco revival fun band Dr Love and The Disco Divas. And before that he played Andrew Ridgeley in a Wham tribute. On Tuesday week, Wayne, who runs his own guitar shop on Carlton Road in the city called Wayne''s Guitar Shack, will bring his ''proper'' band Kinky Cop to the Old Vie for a bimonthly showcase. Kinky Cop - including Wayne on guitar/vocals, drummer Johno and Kart on bass - are his serious attempt at making it in the music business. ''We''re a mix of indie/guitar stuff like the Manics Street Preachers and Stereophonics,'' says Wayne who also teaches music at Carlton Le Willows school. ''We''ve been together a year ago and although the stuff we do with Dr love is making more money I get more out of Kinky Cop, because it''s my own material. Although he admits taking music seriously is ''hard work''. ''It''s definitely easier getting gigs with Dr Love. We''ve played at places like Center Parcs, and were on BBC East Midlands News as part of the recent Children In Need event. But we''re getting there with Kinky Cop..'' because it''s my own material.
