Biography
Formed in 1996 Jacky Tar have become one of NZs foremost bands in any musical genre.they have developed a unique sound based on a varied assortment of influences and backgrounds. From punk to funk and traditional Celtic flavours they have developed into one of NZs most exciting live acts. Based in Wellington they have toured extensively in Ireland, Scandinavia and Northern Europe.Their 2nd Album ''Defenestration'' has been called ''...a whirlwind of Celtic, Rock, Alternative and Dance influences .. with one eye on the cerebral and the other on the intellectual..this is a discovery'' (FROOTS, UK) and a ''...recording that combines influences from all over the planet...'' (Capital Times) Defenestration is available in NZ through Global Routes 2000 ltd and through www.jackytar.co.nz It was produced by NZ music awards ''Producer of the year'' 2000 David Long and Mike Gibson. The album was a finalist in NZ Music awards 2002. This year, 2004, they will not be touring European circuits, but staying at home, completing and launching their 3rd Album which features Shooglenifty fiddler, Angus Grant (Scotland) . Their influences are many and varied:from Riot 111, The Mekons, James Brown, Smith and Mighty, Tone Loc to traditional Celtic tunes and songs.
