Based in North London, Horsepower originated as a side project and
released a mini-album, The Bareback E.P., on Mute in 1997. The band
existed in this side project form for some time, occasionally getting
together to write and perform when the mood took them. In the summer of ''99
the current line-up defined and consolidated the Horsepower sound and
began writing and performing with increasing regularity, gaining a
reputation as one of music''s best kept secrets.
Horsepower has a notable (or notorious!) musical past, depending on
your point of view. The bands'' number comprise former members of
Rosa Mota, Feline, Moose, Moonshake and Blowpipe. However, Horsepower''s
songs of melancholic beauty along with their emotive and confessional
live performances have won them a loyal and growing core of ardent
supporters in their own right.
