Melody Maker April 26th 2000.HIPSTREAM are a six piece who play a jazzy blend of funk grooves. The half Geordie, half Yorkshire line up consists of: Gaff & Sam on vocals Ski on guitar, Ian on keyboards, Chris on bass and Greg on drums. The band has gigged extensively from 1997 around the UK building up a reputation for energetic and competent live performances. These shows have included: The 1997 Huddersfield Unity Festival (with Asian Dub Foundation), The Zeebra bar in Soho square, The Leeds Duchess (with The Hamish Stewart Band) and the Northern Groove Showcase Night at The Lawrence Batley Theatre. In September 1999 Hipstream played at Leeds Warehouse with The Sneaker Pimps, a gig that reviewers raved about and led to record company interest from Atomic Records in Manchester. Since that time the band have taken some time out from the live scene to work on solo projects and to write and record new material. Now Hipstream are back with a new vocalist in the form of jazz singer Samantha Miller and a new groovier sound. Hipstream recently played 2 gigs for BBC music live in May 2001 one of which was broadcast live on BBC Radio York.
