What happens when a couple of jazz-loving session musicians discover Portishead? Well, they'd probably make records like these. The musicianship is very accomplished, with a clever use of synth sounds and guitar effects, and singer Kat Green's lyrics verge on the neurotic and make for good entertainment. Veering through tight Trip-hop by numbers to more straight-ahead pop with a jazz inflection, Girl Next Door's songs are; maybe, a touch too polished to transform their edgy lyrical content and desire to be dark into something mind blowing, but the hunger is definitely there, let them feed.

Tucked away in a cramped second story apartment in Hollywood California, a small band practices nightly to get its sound right. If you listen carefully past the drowning traffic and barking dogs, you might hear a certain GIRL NEXT DOOR recording beautifully crafted songs of personal struggle, frustration and hope.
GND''s founding members are Kat Green (sister to actor James Marshall of Twin Peaks fame and producer Billy Lincoln (Mary's Danish and The Untouchables). Recording their debut album 'Remembering Analogue', these two kept their neighbours up all night with turntable loops and screaming feedback guitars. The songs are both unadulterated and daring ranging from trip-hop to jazz to pop. 'Remembering Analogue' is available at Virgin Megastore, Tower Records and numerous online stores around the web.
'Transition' is GND''s first journey into the digital domain. In addition to ''Gorgeous'', the EP includes a remix of ''Gorgeous'', an enhanced video of the popular single, and three new songs which enter the collaboration of composer/producer Will Thomas (USA Network''s G vs E and the electronica group Slipcritical). ''If we''re going to record with Will, it has to be digital.'' says Lincoln,'' Of course, we''ll continue to use organic instruments to sustain the warmth and dynamics of the GND sound.'' Once again, the dynamic duo continue to keep us on our toes with modem beats, catchy choruses and their trademark sexy sound.
During these times when cookie cutter bands saturate the air waves, no matter where your taste in music may lie, you can now find refuge in a new raw sonic and emotional venture. All you have to do is put an ear against the wall, listen past the rumblings of city decay and hear the enchanting GIRL NEXT DOOR. ''Don''t be fooled, this little ''indie'' CD measures up with the best of the Majors and makes my staff proud each time they sell one!''- (Mike Patella, Manager VIRGIN MEGASTORE -Los Angeles)
