Biography
At the beginning of 1997, gertrude burst forth in front of the admiring eyes of London’s underground artsy/squat scene. Formed as a collective from the outset, the bands commitment to radical ways of organising and managing themselves was realised musically by the rhythmical interplay between different band members and by having three main vocalists who weave in an out of multi layered songs.Frequently, the power and confidence of the band has now been described as ‘awe inspiring’ as Gertrude has evolved into a jagged, power-cello mutant orchestra, offset by lyrical clarinet madness. Gertrude have recently supported both chumbawamba and the legendary fugazi and have just recorded their debut album.
