Biography
Estelle Kokot is rapidly building herself a second successful career, here in her native UK. Having enjoyed great success in South Africa with the highly popular band Rush Hour, and cult status with her one-woman show Beyond Belief, Estelle is now building an enviable reputation in this country as a highly talented and individualistic jazz singer, pianist and composer. Her music reflects diverse influences: the African rhythms of her childhood combined with a strong jazz sensibility and love of melody. Her songs are moving, delicate and sensual, her voice is rich, textured and expressive.
Estelle combines technical ability with an enormous depth of feel and soul. Her live performances blend outstanding musicianship with both warmth and humour. She is endearingly natural on stage, which never fails to win her the hearts and minds of her audience. The musicians who accompany her endorse her reputation as a highly talented and immensely powerful live performer: Gary Husband, Alan Skidmore, Mick Hutton and Sebastian Rochford. This reputation was consolidated last year with the release of her UK debut album ''Alternative Therapy'' (Sayin Somethin). Engineered by Tristan Powell and with Mick Hutton on bass and Rod Youngs on drums, the album went immediately to Number 2 in the Jazzwise charts.
