Biography
From their beginnings as an improvising, groove-based band in Cardiff to their sweat drenched, theatrical club nights in London, Diesel Bug have continuously displayed an eagerness to break the rules and embrace the new. Most of Diesel Bug knew each other from their college days in Cardiff in the early 90''s. After brief spells in different bands Diesel Bug formed in the winter of 1997 playing regularly at the underground and somewhat infamous ''Toucan Club''. It was in Cardiff that they first attracted a serious following and saw Diesel Bug steal the show at Cardiff''s Summer Music Festival. The tracks they cut at this time ''Miles Away'' and ''The Bug'' led to Diesel Bug featuring on the Toucan club''s CD ''The Mothership convention''. Appearances on Welsh music television shows and local radio airplay gave way to ''Miles Away'' being used for the BBC''s ''Children in need''. Interest from local young filmmakers and DJ''s resulted in the DB sound becoming a collective, running club nights and making video''s and films. By 98 this collective came under the name `Bug spray'' and began putting on regular nights in London including: The Bug Bar, Goldsmiths 8` Soho Jazz Festival. By this time Diesel bug were also playing universities and clubs all over the country and had put together their first CD ''Fathers of the Q''. On the strength of the CD Diesel bug were invited by the UK Festival in Japan to headline a string of gigs in and around Tokyo, where the young funky Japanese went wild for Diesel Bug''s mould shattering performances. On return to Britain Diesel Bug embarked on UK tour playing venues that included: Scala, Mass, Moles, Sound Republic, Starlounge, Jazz caf?, Marlowe festival and culminated with a shining performance at the Notting Hill Carnival (Touch Stage). At the same time Diesel Bug finished their second 10 track CD ''Breakbeat Funk Phenomenon'' recorded at Br''rtannia Row, Scarlet 8~ The Gimp Box Studios in North London. Diesel Bug are currently recording more material and gigging regularly around the UK.
