Biography
'Les Sens' (? The senses ?)'Music sums up all the senses: the note of a guitar, the sight of a concert hall, the aroma of tobacco in the Jazz club' says CARLES GR, 'the taste of good whisky while notes float through the air...' CARLES GR was born in Barcelona. He received his first guitar at the age of 16...imitating Gibson Les Paul. During this period he was influenced by classic and rock music, but he was always interested in Jazz, particularly Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall and Kenny Burrell. In 1985 he took his guitar to L'Aula de Barcelona, the famous conservatory and after finishing his training, he perfected his style playing for a number of years with various jazz groups and touring the Spanish Peninsula. In 1993 he crossed the border to work and live in Paris. It is here where he met and played with Ren? Mailhes and created different jazz groups passing numerous memorable evenings in many Jazz clubs. Today, his guitar has lived through all his compositions which lead to the recording of 'Les Sens' (the Senses), the title of his new album. CARLES GR forms his quartet, tuning his guitar to the drums of Massimo Trasente, to the bass of Denis Rezard and to the piano of Denis Uhalde. With his first album CARLES GR tries to introduce his feeling of jazz using the universal subject, the senses 'Les Sens' . You can listen to ten compositions, two for each sense, passing from a ballad to a fast swing and even a bossa nova. With a classical jazz quartet, drums, double bass, piano and guitar, we highlight the third composition with the collaboration of Ren? Mailhes, the French guitarist, who with his grand experience gives us a hot stroke in 3/4 called, as the title indicates 'Gusto de la vida' (The pleasure of life). This album brings us the magic that has always existed with jazz, making the tradition last and leaving this music style everlasting throughout our times.
