Biography
The son of wholesome hippies, Brighton based Tom Gandey aka Cagedbaby was raised amidst boats and pianos. His two brothers now run their father?s fishmonger business, but Tom decided to follow more in the footsteps of the distaff side. "All my Mum?s family are classical musicians and my grandfather was a conductor of the Royal Philharmonic. When I was young I thought I might combine both of the family passions and become a rock star yachtsman. You know, like Simon le Bon."Cagedbaby?s stunning debut album has drawn comparison's to artists as wide ranging as The Pet Shop Boys and T Rex. The album was recorded in the summer of 2004 in Tom Gandey?s bedroom. However after recording the album Tom joined up with friends from Brighton and set about converting the album for the live arena. After a year of heavy gigging which has seen the band play everywhere from Glastonbury to FUJI Rock, the Cagedbaby sound has transformed. As anyone who witnessed their recent gig at The Barfly in London will tell you they are now an awesome live force. Right up their with their electonic piers Mylo, Cut Copy and Clor. So wanting to Capture the new Cagedbaby sound on record Tom Gandey took his band back to the studio to re-record ?Golden Triangle?. Cagedbaby is Tom and his band: Jim Carmichael (drums), Jimmy Day (Keys), Kan Lailey (guitar) and with Tom himself on vocals.
