`Chen''s touch was masterful, combining the solid, enviable technique of the Russian school with the assured elegance of his Claudio Arrau lineage...(the performance) demonstrated the amazing maturity he is capable of wielding.'' This CD is a collection of pianoforte masterpieces ranging from the delight of the Haydn sonata with its exuberance, beauty and wit to the sublime impromptu of Schubert, written at the beginning of the outpouring of great compositions in the last fifteen months of his life - to the story telling brilliance of Liszt and Stravinsky. The CD is the very first offering from a brand new independent label, Jaques Samuel Recordings. If this is anything to go by the new releases should be ones to watch.
