Biography
''It''s music for grown -ups that doesnt fit conveniently into any of the usual slots; country, blues or otherwise'' said Country Music International of ''Dangerous AcquaintanceW'' the mo recent album from highly regarded singer/songwriter Barry Crompton.
Barry began performing in his hometown of Toronto, Canada at the tender age of nine, since then has recorded seven albums and played extensively across North America, Europe, Scandinavia and South Africa; making numerous television and radio appearances along the way.
Although hard to categorise Barry''s music is somewhere in the confused cross-over 1 where Chuck Berry and the Eagles arc waiting to meet Ry Cooder and Jackson Browne se they can take George Gershwin out to dinner. ''I never try to class myself as a particular genre of anist'' says Barry ''don''t much like the restrictions that imposes although it makes it hard for radio station VM. 1 get off on stuff that smacks of honesty and integrity and like the person who wrote it really meant it - and a good rockin'' beat!''
The many years of experience Crompton has clocked up has now allowed him to feel comfortable with the style of writing and perfoming that has eamed him an ever growing live following. ''You eventually start to feel that are becoming yourself as an artist and not wannabe somebody else. It''s kinda nice when people comment that something sounds like a ''Barry Crompton'' song''. The current album ''Dangerous Acquaintance'' beus this out. The influences are there - the country feel, the blues, the rocknroll, the wry thoughtful ballads; all indicative of an artist who clocked up a few miles, seen a thing or two and wasn''t looking out of the window when he should have been paying attention.
